I've only seen the first one so far, which I thought was really well done. Hopefully I'll manage to catch up on the other two sometime soon, although it will be a very long time before my favourite book comes out in film form ('The Magician's Nephew') if it does at all. I agree with you, my favourite part is when the children are transported to Narnia, particularly when someone new visits for the first time. There's always such a sense of wonder.

I read the Narnia books (and watched the BBC productions) when I was a kid, without ever realizing that there religious overtones. It wasn't until high school that someone explained to me the allegories, especial in LWW. What do you think of the new movies? I manage to separate them from the actual books and thoroughly enjoy them. Everytime the kids venture into Narnia, my heart flutters a little bit. I think it's still the girl in this 28-year-old adult trying to get out. :)

It never ceases to amaze me how wide ranging opinions on this series are. I had expected more people to be cheering for 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' (my second favourite).

I know exactly what you mean. Increasingly as the series progressed I found myself wishing I had read these when I was younger and wouldn't have noticed that I was being hit round the head with allegory. I wasn't terribly keen on 'The Last Battle' for just this reason.

I love Magician's Nephew too! :) It's one of my very favourites (Dawn Treader is the other one, so we're not in total agreement, lol). I don't understand why it's the least favourite of so many others.

The first time through, when I was in my twenties (I somehow missed these as a child) i enjoyed Narnia, but I have to say that as I've got older I find Lewis's dogmatism rather hard to take. Nevertheless, I still go back to favourite passages now and then. Where the books are concerned I think 'A Horse and his Boy' is probably the one I like best, although 'The Silver Chair' isn't bad either.
