I've joined the Virago club and you've just reminded me that I pushed the latest e-mail over into a fielder and haven't gone back to it. Thank you, I must go and see what they have to say.

Thank you very much! I chose it because of having studied Old English at university and translated quite unhealthy amounts of the stuff. I've just started South Riding as of last night and already it's fascinating.

Thank you for organising it. It's lovely to have an excuse to read lots of Viragos in a row, as it usually makes me feel a bit guilty doing that for some bizarre reason. Comyns is definitely worth getting to if this book was anything to go by. It looks and sounds rather innocuous but it's powerful stuff!

Thankfully they are (mostly) much cheaper second hand, or my bank manager would be having words too. Virago have just recently started a book club to showcase some of their newest offerings, which looks quite interesting. They publish such an impressive variety of stuff.

Welcome, I'm glad you're joining us! I also love stalking Viragos, although there was only one secondhand bookshop in my old city where I could find them. I hope you get to South Riding this week, it's one I'd like to read also. (I love your blog name too, how beautiful!)

Hello! How lovely to discover your blog, and I am so glad you're participating in the week. You sound like me - I have ridiculous amounts of unread Viragos boxed up in my mum's attic and I am itching to get to them! I look forward to reading your thoughts on the Comyns! She is not an author I have read, though I do have some of her books in my TBR pile!

I've been reading The Return of the Soldier for the Virago Reading Week (although I haven't posted my thoughts on it yet) and I agree with you that it's a wonderful book! My second book is going to be The Enchanted April by Elizabeth von Arnim. I do have a copy of South Riding but I don't think I'll have time to start that one this week as well.

I'm old enough to remember the Virago imprint starting out and when they were first available I bought as many as I could afford and probably more than my bank manager would have sanctioned. All the publicity about Virago reading week has made me realise that I haven't been keeping up with what they've published recently and so I'm hoping that I'm going to discover some new to-be favourites along the way.

You're right about the charity shops; they are the very best place to find them.
