I remember enjoying 'Silas Marner' when I was about eleven, so I'll have to read some more Eliot if you think that they're all that good. Thanks!

I very much enjoyed Middlemarch, Daniel Deronda, and Silas Marner; none of the endings bothered me! So there's definitely hope. :)

There's no shame in it when there are so many other wonderful authors out there: too many books and too little time. She's worth getting round to, although I might suggest starting with a different book! The only other of hers that I've read is 'Silas Marner' which was years ago but I seem to remember enjoying.

Thank goodness it wasn't just me! I really hope her other novels end in a more satisfactory manner, as I enjoyed her writing so much I do want to read them, but it will be disappointing if they all have similarly incongruous endings.

YES. I just read this too, and I was loving it right up until the two people floated down the river and couldn't get back and all of the silliness started. It just didn't seem in keeping with character and made me quite cranky.

I am ashamed to admit that I have yet to read any Eliot, although I really want to. I am sorry you didn't like the ending but at least it was good up until that point.
