I'm being sparing with the Holtby novels because I don't want there to be none left for me to read. I have The Land of Green Ginger waiting for me, so perhaps I'll make that this year's Holtby.

I loved South Riding too and also enjoyed The Land of Green Ginger, another Holtby book which I read last year. I agree that one of the great things about her novels is the way she gives her characters so much depth, with nobody being completely good or bad. I haven't read this one yet but am looking forward to it.
